License terms

for the programs Album 42 and Copy 42 · As of October 2026. The German version is binding.

1. Scope

These terms govern the use of the programs Album 42 and Copy 42 for Windows and macOS and of the Copy 42 phone app by André Lucas, Epic Art and Sound (“we”). Anything without a program name applies to both programs; differences are named for the respective program.

The purchase of a license is handled by Freemius (Freemius, Inc., USA) as authorised reseller; its terms of sale (for Album 42 and for Copy 42) apply to purchase, payment and refunds, these license terms apply to the use of the programs.

2. Free trial

  • Album 42 can be tried free of charge with all features for 28 days from its first start on a computer (Windows PC or Mac). After that, Album 42 can no longer scan new folders without a license. The catalogue is kept; viewing, searching and opening keep working.
  • Copy 42 can be tried on any computer free of charge for 28 days from the first start, with all features. After that, sharing the clipboard stays free. A computer can only send and receive files and folders with a license.

3. The Copy 42 phone app

The Copy 42 phone app is free and needs no license. It can send files to other phones and to computers with a license. After the trial, a computer without a license no longer accepts files from phones either.

4. What the license allows

  • Album 42: with one license you may use Album 42 without time limit on one computer – a Windows PC or a Mac –, privately and professionally.
  • Copy 42: with a license you may use Copy 42 without time limit on as many computers as you bought (1, 3, 10 or 30), privately and professionally.
  • A license is a one-off purchase, not a subscription. It covers one major version (e.g. version 1, i.e. all versions 1.x) with all updates of that major version. A new major version needs a new license; you may keep using the previous version.
  • You may move a license to another computer at any time, including from Windows to Mac and vice versa: deactivate it in the program on the old computer and enter the license key on the new one. You may also pass a license on to another person if you deactivate it everywhere first and no longer use the program yourself.

5. What is not allowed

  • publishing the license key or using it on more computers than the license allows,
  • bypassing the license check or modifying a program so that it no longer works,
  • selling, renting or publicly offering the programs for download (a backup copy is allowed).

Reverse engineering is only permitted to the extent expressly allowed by law (§§ 69d, 69e of the German Copyright Act).

6. Online functions

For the license check, the programs occasionally need an internet connection on the computer: at start-up and once a day. Without internet, the last successful check remains valid for 30 days. With Copy 42, your data goes directly from device to device in your own network, never via our servers. What is transmitted is described in the privacy policy.

7. Third-party components

The programs contain components by other authors, such as Electron, and in Album 42 also sharp and the SigLIP 2 image recognition model. Their own licenses apply; they are listed in each program under Help → “About Album 42” or “About Copy 42”.

8. Warranty and liability

Your statutory rights apply. Please report errors to info@epicartandsound.com.

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act. In cases of slight negligence, we are only liable for breach of an essential obligation on whose fulfilment you may rely, and then limited to the typical, foreseeable damage.

Album 42 does not change your files; thumbnails and tags are kept in a separate catalogue, and anything deleted goes to the Recycle Bin (Windows) or the Trash (macOS). Copy 42 does not overwrite or delete any of your files; anything received only goes to the receive folder. We still recommend regular backups.

9. Final provisions

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live remain unaffected.
